A battery is the one part that fails without warning: it cranks fine on Monday and leaves you pushing the bike on Tuesday. Heat, short trips, and long parked spells during load shedding all shorten battery life in Bangladesh, so buying the right unit — and looking after it — matters more here than in cooler markets.

Start with the label, not the brand

Every battery carries the three numbers you need to shop safely. Photograph the label of the one currently fitted before you order:

• Voltage — 12V on virtually every modern motorcycle and car sold here.
• Capacity (AH) — how much charge it stores. Commuter motorcycles usually run in the 3–9 AH band; cars are far higher. Match the figure your owner's manual gives.
• Terminal layout and case size — the positive post has to end up on the side your cable reaches, and the case has to sit flat in the tray.

Dry-charged vs maintenance-free

Conventional lead-acid (“dry-charged”) batteries are filled with electrolyte at the shop and need the level checked with distilled water every few months. They cost less up front, but evaporation is faster in Bangladeshi heat, and a neglected cell kills the whole battery. Sealed maintenance-free units cost more and cannot be topped up, but they need no attention at all between replacements — the better choice if you never open the side panel.

Warranty is the real price difference

Two batteries with the same AH rating can differ widely in warranty. Before paying, confirm in writing:

• The warranty period, and whether it is full replacement or pro-rata.
• The manufacturing date code — shelf-aged stock has already lost capacity.
• Who honours the claim: the seller, or the brand's service centre.

Keep the invoice and the stamped warranty card together. Claims are routinely refused without both.

Making it last

• Connect positive first and negative last when fitting; reverse the order when removing.
• Keep terminals clean and lightly greased — corrosion mimics a dead battery.
• Short trips never fully recharge a battery. If your daily run is under ten minutes, give the vehicle a longer ride weekly or use a trickle charger.
• A vehicle parked for more than two weeks should have the negative terminal disconnected or be kept on a maintainer.
